magazine obtained the video. it shows romney back in 1985 describing ou bain capital viewed the companies it was supposedly helping. >> bain capital is an investment partnership which was formed to invest in, startup companies and ongoing companies than to take an active hand in managing them and hopefully five to eight years to harvest them at a significant profit. >> harvest these companies for a profit. that was romney's goal in business. to harvest companies the way you harvest organs, the way you harvest crops. take out everything good and leave the stalks behind. but we now know this is mitt romney's world view. the world view we only see behind closed doors when he thinks we're not listening. it's what we saw on that secret video where romney said, 47% of americans saw themselves as victims. today the obama campaign released a devastating new ad that simply let's romney speak for himself while showing the faces of the 47%. >> there are 47% of the people that will vote for the president no matter what, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibili
damage. a new gallup tracking poll has the president opening up a 6-point lead over romney. as mitt romney fumbled his way down the campaign trail. so first this lack luster rnc convention set him back. and then he completely bungled his response to the libya situation and that didn't help. but then came the biggest mistake of all. 47% rant caught on tape. now, national polls are not always the best way to understand the state of the election. and for that, you've got to go to the swing states. and sorry, mitt, but the pictures there are not much better. a "new york times" cbs quinnipiac poll shows that big margins exist among likely swing state voters. in pennsylvania, the president is up big. 54% to romney's 42%. he leads romney 53% to 44% in florida and in ohio, he leads by a full 10 points! 53% to 43%. the last one is really important because if history is any guide the road to the white house really does run through ohio. no republican has ever won the white house without winning the state of ohio
hit a big butch and it ain't pretty. the man republican operatives have reportedly been urging romney to get out and get blasting is here and talking. wrong man paul ryan joining me from memphis, tennessee. what do you make of the latest numbers congressman? you have talked about weakness in the economy, but prior to the data today, congressman, we been seeing a pickup of consumer sentiment and obviously we see markets all over the map but what did this signal? >>guest: we have seen slow growth. now we see it is slower. a downward revision from 1.7 to 1.3 percent is a big drop. the drop in durable goods is enormous. this is not what a real recovery looks like. as you mentioned from the fay of businesses and manufacturers, they see more clouds ahead. it is because of the president's failed policies. mitt romney and i are preparing very specific pro growth solutions to get real growth in the economy. there is no reason why we cannot get the who growing at its potential and get people back to work. that is why we propose pro growth reforms and lower tax rates giving businesses incentive
. >>> romney just released an ad in which, for the fst time he speaks directly to camera. in all thether adsyou don't utr hce a see g t thecamera him walking around. the goal is to show he does care about americans who are struggling financially. he does a pretty good job with it. >> it many americans are struggling to find work in today's economy. too many of those whore payc.ng are liaycheck to acare ling in poverty than when president obama took office. and 15 million more are on food stamps. my plan will create 12 million new jobs over the next four years. we shoul'teasure compassion by how many pele are on wee. hosuomio by how many people are able to get off welfare and get a good paying job. i'm mitt romney, and i approved this message. >> i think that ad just makes my odorning, it's thursday, september 27th, as you take a look at a wet times square in new york city. i'm in chicago this morning, but with us in new york city wh willie geist, our national affairs editor for "new york" magazine andnbit analyst, john heilemann. also former treasury official and "morning joe" economic analyst
job. i'm mitt romney, and i approved this message. >> i think that ad just makes my point, they're tone deaf. good morning, it's thursday, september 27th, as you take a look at a wet times square in new york city. i'm in chicago this morning, but with us in new york city with willie geist, our national affairs editor for "new york" magazine and msnbc political analyst, john heilemann. also former treasury official and "morning joe" economic analyst steve ratner and nbc news chief affairs correspondent and host of "andrea mitchell reports." >> we have affairs. >> andrea mitchell. and in washington, for "the politico playbook," executive executor jim vandehei. of course, willie, we've got a lot to talk about. let's start really quickly with the refs! >> they're back. >> we've got some breaking news. i've got to tell you, little kay, she's very excited because she's 9 years old. she plays in the soccer league. and the parents have had to ref over the past couple weeks because those guys have gone off to the nfl, but it's taken care of now. >> that's great news. >> drilled down deep
: that was governor romney on the campaign trail in ohio yesterday making his case for a new american economic agenda. 12 hours later, we got our weekly unemployment numbers. the labor department now saying 26,000 fewer americans filed for jobless benefits last week than the week before. that brings the total number to 359,000. but exerts say typically, the number must consistently drop below 375,000, to indicate that highering is strong enough to actually lower our unemployment rate. a big new study meantime provide little hope for the employment picture going forward. a survey of a group of leading ceo's shows they expect to cut jobs in the coming months rather than add them. fox business network's robert gray is live in new york. robert? >> megyn, that's right. it is the business roundtable. this is their third quarter outlook. they are much less bullish if you will on the economy and on hiring than they were just six months ago. as of right now, only about 29% of these ceo's see adding jobs. meanwhile 34% of them say they see headcount declining over the next six months. the reason here is uncert
a trillion dollars. not so. it's all postponed to 2013. governor romney has said we're going to do things with the tax cold, cut everyone's taxes and get more money. not clear how that's going to happen. i hope in the coming debates the people who are the moderators, who are very smart and policy savvy won't let them just give an answer and -- you have to follow up and say, now wait a minute, that doesn't square. how are you going to do this? what is the expectation the public can have? i mean, this is most interesting. if you think about who is going to become president. they are going to have to do some really unpopular things. >> sean: very much so. >> to fix this. i mean, you look through the book, and it was john boehner the speaker who came to the president and said we need to do tax reform, entitlement reform. those are hard. they take a long time. >> sean: we need it. >> it's just got to be done. >> sean: i accept means testing. i don't like it, but i accept it. i accept they'll raise the eligibility age. these are basic things. mitt romney to his credit said that on "60 minutes"
four years. >> harry reid is targeting mitt romney's mormon faith. that's fine. let's talk about the president's faith. >> no, no, no. not bless america, damn america. >> sean: all of that, and the president is not reading off the teleprompter. >> we don't have all the information yet. >> sean: and the ad the main street media don't want you to see. we're 40 days from election day. "hannity" starts right here right now. if you want a glimpse into what the future holds for america if president barack obama is handed a second term, take a hard long look at the chaos unfolding in the group in europe. violent riots are raging in the streets of spain and greece as angry mobs protest against the government and austerity measures there. in athens, more than 70,000 people descended on the greek parliament. molotov cocktails targeted police officers, and similar scenes of violence in madrid as well, but make no mistake if this president is in fact afforded another four years in office and has the ability to run up our national debt another $6 trillion, look right there, this is what main
his record, i have more confidence that president obama can get that done than governor romney appeared >> -- then governor romney. >> right now, you're trying to get a sales tax increase to pay for pre-k. can you defend, sitting next to someone who does not like texas famously, the decision to brought to market with a tax increase even for something you so strongly believe in? many mayors are with yo but there are a lot of elected officials and san antonio who are not with you. >> basically, i fundamentally believe that brainpower is the currency of success. in the 21st century global economy. those communities that created will be the communities that thrive in our market economy. and those communities that do not will be the ones who fall behind. san antonio, i believe, needs to make a huge investment in education. that investment is not limited to more money. it also means getting parents involved. it also means expecting more from everybody along whole education ecosystem, from administrators to policy-makers to teachers come expecting more out of everyone. so what i have
